Planned Parenthood is not a name people normally associate with racist or eugenic organizations. But in this article, I will present some chilling, documented evidence that the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, was an avowed racist and eugenicist, and that her organizations had several ties to modern history’s most devastating experiment in eugenics: the Third Reich.
Planned Parenthood’s Secret History
The Eugenics Movement of the 19th Century
Thomas R. Malthus was a leading thinker in the eugenics movement of the 19th century. The movement warned that overpopulation was a dire problem for the future well-being of the human race, that it was a prime cause of poverty, and that the only solution was a purification of the race through a purging of the “unfit” from the gene pool.
Malthus’s best known work was “An Essay on the Principle of Population”, first published in 1798, and in it he said that “all children born, beyond what would be required to keep up the population to a desired level, must necessarily perish, unless room is made for them by the deaths of grown persons. We should facilitate, instead of foolishly and vainly endeavoring to impede, the operations of nature in producing this mortality.” He went on to strongly discourage the acts of charity that impede nature’s normal process of weeding out the weak.
Among the list of those who should be purged included:
- The poor
- the physically and mentally handicapped
- The racially inferior
Was Planned Parenthood’s Founder, Margaret Sanger, a Eugenicist?
Understandably, Planned Parenthood today does not want to be associated with the Eugenics movement or be accused of any kind of racism, and so they deny that Sanger was either. And like most politically motivated denials, this one does not square with the facts.
Sanger’s premiere publication, The Birth Control Review (founded in 1917) regularly published articles explicitly promoting eugenics, with titles like:
- “Some Moral Aspects of Eugenics” (June 1920)
- “The Eugenic Conscience” (February 1921)
- “The Purpose of Eugenics” (December 1924)
- “Birth Control and Positive Eugenics” (July 1925)
- “Birth Control: The True Eugenics” (August 1928)
Sanger published a book in 1922, called The Pivot of Civilization, in which she echoed all of the sentiments of Malthus. Sanger claimed that there came a point where charity did more harm than good. “Such a point, it seems obvious, is reached when the incurably defective are permitted to procreate and thus increase their numbers.” The elite are then forced to carry what she called “a dead weight of human waste.”
To Sanger, this was more than just a burden to society: it was an outright threat to its survival. Just how dangerous are these “dregs” to the well-being of civilization? “These are the most dangerous elements in the world community, the most devastating curse on human progress and expression.”
If not addressed, she issued this chilling warning about the future: “Possibly drastic and Spartan methods may be forced upon American society if it continues complacently to encourage the chance and chaotic breeding that has resulted from our stupid, cruel sentimentalism.” To clarify her reference, the Spartans were required to bring every baby before a group of elders who would carefully inspect the infant. If any sign of defects were found, the baby was tossed off of a cliff.
What, exactly, is this cruel sentimentalism she’s getting at?
In a chapter entitled “The Cruelty of Charity,” she lamented the dangers of benevolence and altruism, “dangers which have to-day produced their full harvest of human waste.” To be clear, she is in no way lamenting that altruism has not gone far enough, but that it should be put to rest: “my criticism, therefore, is not directed at the ‘failure’ of philanthropy, but rather at its success.”
Of all the acts of benevolence she condemns, there is one “more insidiously injurious than any other: supply GRATIS medical and nursing facilities to slum mothers,” which she takes to be “the surest sign that our civilization has bred, is breeding and is perpetuating constantly increasing numbers of defectives, delinquents and dependents.”
Sterilization and Segregation: Sanger’s Preferred Methodology
But what to do? It’s one thing to moan about “defectives,” its another thing to try and get rid of them. In the same book, Sanger said, “There is but one practical and feasible program in handling the great problem of the feeble-minded. That is, as the best authorities are agreed, to prevent the birth of those who would transmit imbecility to their descendants.” But how to do it? Here, she is quite clear: “We prefer the policy of immediate sterilization, of making sure that parenthood is absolutely prohibited.”
And if that is not possible, her backup plan is just as clear: “Every feeble-minded girl or woman of the hereditary type, especially of the moron class, should be segregated during the reproductive period. Otherwise, she is almost certain to bear imbecile children.”
After reading this, you might be tempted to think that perhaps she was influenced by the Nazis. But that’s actually historically backwards. All of this was written before the Nazis came to power. So it would be more accurate to consider whether Sanger’s efforts influenced the Nazis.
Did Planned Parenthood’s Founder Help Start a Movement that Inspired Nazi Germany?
If this sounds outlandish to you, try and make sense of these facts:
- The German sterilization program began in January 1934. The first sterilization law in the U.S. was passed 27 years earlier by the State of Indiana.
- Before Germany ever started, 17 U.S. States had written forced sterilization laws, and after 1930, thousands of women a year were being sterilized against their will. (Reilly, 1991)
- The leaders of Nazi Germany’s sterilization movement actually studied the practice of the State of California, and modeled themselves after it (Kopp, 1933)
Most people aren’t aware of how strong and formative the eugenics movement was in America. Most people assume that racism and eugenics were only written about in America by angry fringe groups like the KKK. But forced sterilization of minority women lasted for 65 years, and was not ended in the U.S. until 1972! (Strange, isn’t it, that abortion became legal the very next year?)
Are There Any Ties Between Planned Parenthood and Nazi Germany?
The Influence of Ernst Rudin
Ernst Rudin was the director of the leading German institute on eugenics, called the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Genealogy. When addressing the German Society for Racial Hygiene, Rudin lamented the early days of his efforts when people failed to see the superiority of the “Nordic race” in the creation of superior art, technology, and culture, and instead foolishly wasted their energies trying to help and preserve the “defectives.” (Tucker, 1994)
On June 2 of 1933, Rudin was placed on a committee by the 3rd Reich to determine Nazi racial policy, and 12 days later, the committees recommendations for the sterilization of the genetically inferior were made law.
Did Rudin have any scruples about how Hitler had accomplished his “purification?” On the contrary, he had nothing but praise for him, saying that the significance of racial hygiene “did not become evident to all aware Germans until the political activity of Adolf Hitler and only through his work has our 30 year long dream of translating racial hygiene into action finally become a reality,” later calling it a “duty of honor” for Germans to aid Hitler in the task (Rudin, 1934.)
Why am I telling you about a doctor of the 3rd Reich in a blog about Abortion in America? Because three months before those sterilization laws were passed in Germany, Margaret Sanger’s Birth Control Review published Rudin’s article on eugenic sterilization: “Eugenic Sterilization: An Urgent Need.”
The Influence of Lothrop Stoddard
Lothrop Stoddard, a published Harvard Scholar, was an outspoken white supremacist, praising the success of the white race over all others in history. In his most famous work, entitled “The Rising Tide of Color Against White World Supremacy,” he says, “At the close of the nineteenth century the white man stood the indubitable master of the world… The white man could think, could create, could fight superlatively well. No wonder the redskins and Negroes feared and adored him as a god.”
When classifying the value of each race, Stoddard put the white race at the top and the black race at the bottom, saying of the black race, “Left to himself, he remained a savage,” and arguing that the only time the black race has transcended savagery is when other superior races have intervened. But this intervention he also lamented, saying that “crossings with the Negro are uniformly fatal.”
In his own book on the Nazis, Stoddard praised them for increasing the quality of their population and putting a “drastic curb of the defective elements,” and that they were “weeding out the worst strains in the Germanic stock in a scientific and truly humanitarian way.” He personally met with Adolf Hitler, claiming in 1940 that the “Jew problem” had already been settled because the Nazis are eliminating them (Kuhl, 1994)
No surprise that his writings on race were featured in Nazi school textbooks (Shire, 1941)!
Why am I telling you about Lothrop Stoddard? Because he was, along with Margaret Sanger, a founding member of the Birth Control League, which became the Birth Control Federation of America in 1939, and was then renamed Planned Parenthood Federation of America in 1942.
It doesn’t end there.
Planned Parenthood’s international affiliate for years shared offices with the Eugenics Society. In 1934, Leon Whitney of the Eugenics Society received a request for his book, “The Case for Sterilization,” from the office of none other than Adolf Hitler, after which Hitler sent him a personal letter of thanks! (Kuhl, 1994)
Hanz Harmson, who helped write the sterilization laws for 3rd Reich, also helped start Planned Parenthood’s German affiliate!
So does all this mean that the current leaders of Planned Parenthood still have a racist agenda? Without evidence, we can’t make specific accusations against specific people, but what we can do is examine their strategies and see if there is a racist agenda implicit in who they market to and in where they place their clinics. I’m so delighted! Finally–finally, an article about the truth behind Planned Parenthood! I’ve been hoping and praying for this. Listening to the Jewish members of the House of Representatives expounding on the virtues of this evil organization made me ill and angry. How can they overlook the horror of Nazi eugenics? Do they honestly believe Margaret Sanger was on the side of women? “By their fruits you will know them”. Poor women were targeted for abortions. Today, poor young girls are sold into sex slavery, and their pimps are protected by Planned Parenthood. Jewish women, especially those in the position to vote, should be the voice of outrage against an organization birthed in racism and abuse. Were there no Margaret Sanger, there may have been no Hitler. May God have mercy on her soul.

Very simple argument – abortion kills a human being. This is a simple biological fact, nothing to do with religion or morality. Our laws need to be consistent. Either we can kill anybody for any reason or everybody is protected, no singling out of one group.

I did always know this since I was a teen. Will be 50 this year. I have mostly shared this info with the African Americans since they were considered the lowest due to their darkest skin, & since they were aborting their children at that time. I’m happy you are now getting it out – I wish it had come when I was a pro-life teen. I then lived in a city filled with African Americans mixed with many other races. So many babies would have been saved. I remember giving a speech about abortion & Jewish Dr. Bernard Nathanson, biggest promoter & most aborted babies in his clinic, including his own son, when I was 22 years old. He admitted to all the lies about the Catholic Church & years later converted to Catholicism & taught other doctors the truth about abortion. H recently died @ 84. He was responsible for 75,000 abortions. God bless.

I hope and pray that African Americans will pray for an end to abortion as it is keeping them a minority. Then in time they may hear the call to pray outside the abortion mill and what a witness that would be!
May all who read this pray for a change of heart in our country- but more specifically the abortionists, workers there, lawmakers, those who are having abortions as well. I truly believe that even if abortion remains legal, and our society has a change of heart, abortion would not even be an option in the mind of every mother.

Beck was NOT the first one to details this- he has gotten his info from the experts in the pro-life arena…let’s give credit where it is due. Books on Sanger about this have been on the market for YEARS before Beck EVER mentioned Planned Parenthood and Margaret Sanger. And a powerful documentary called- Maafa21 is now available- ask Beck why he doesn’t highlight that film, despite the fact that he has it?

You got it! Universities are there to pump lies into student’s heads. In his book ‘Impact of Science on Society’ Bertrand Russell explains (ed. 2003, p.62):
“Fichte laid it down that education should aim at destroying free will, so that, after pupils have left school, they shall be incapable, throughout the rest of their lives, of thinking or acting otherwise than as their schoolmasters would have wished.”
And then the clincher:
“Diet, injections, and injunctions will combine, from a very early age, to produce the sort of character and the sort of beliefs that the authorities consider desirable, and any serious criticism of the powers that be will become psychologically impossible.”

Sanger had those ideas long ago; I’m sure similar motives are more easily seen today-just look at where the addresses of the briskest businesses promoted by Unplanned Parenthood. While educating people to Sanger’s Song, we have to be aware that the same tune still runs through the bookkeeping departments’ heads.

Whatshername, Maria Stopes, was also a eugenicist. She was keen on such eugenic notions of contraception, abortion, population control, sterilisation, expediency, and procreation only if absolutely unavoidable to prevent total extinction of the human species, as have been bequeathed to us today. I think some people are killers. They are driven by an unacknowledged ambition for the power of life and death. Administering death and authorising a selection of life gives these persons a sense of the power they crave. To kill is the undeclared true motivation, since killing breaks all boundaries and law, and imparts to them the feeling of being beyond human constraint. Hence seeking to find ways to promote murder that is socially accepted and producing apparent profound moral concern: all is done for the welfare of all of us, or sometimes of some of us (women; teenagers; the family; those dying of incurable illness). Public health is a perennial popular theme. Economic obligation/management is another. It seems to me that duping the world around them is a secret satisfaction for the killers, who conceal however even from themselves their real nature. It must be a bit unpleasant to face the fact that you yourself, not your neighbour, are Cain. Defiance of authority, starting with the divine, is clearly characteristic of eugenics.
You could also say the radical homosexual movement is against families and children as well. They have surely copied all of the (feel sorry for me) feminist propaganda that was effective for them.
Please include us in Africa in your concerns. Africa which has been traditionally so naturally pro-life, has fast become the home of hundreds of Marie Stopes “reproductive health” centres, and governments have been submitting to all the pressures from the World Bank and USAID, WHO and Planned Parenthood which will provide aid on condition that abortion be not only legalised but made readily available. A girl of 14 can have a “TOP” without her parents knowledge and consent, but she cannot have a tooth filled without her parents signing indemnities… in South Africa. The “Maputo Protocol” is being implemented accross this continent, under the pretext that we are over-populated. Stats show that we are apart from Australia and the N & S poles, the least densely populated continent of the planet…
Has president Obama read any of this–he SHOULD be one of the greatest pro life advocates of the century–I firmly believe that he WILL be. Mom of twelve.

Sadly, many of the leaders in the African American community we admire and respect have wholeheartedly supported Planned Parenthood. For example, Martin Luther King Jr. received the Margaret Sanger Award in 1966. You can read his acceptance speech

Yes, I have known all about Margaret Sanger since I started researching vaccinations many years ago. Sanger was funded by Rockefeller, and one of the many mistresses of H.G. Wells, another famous eugenicist.
I hear Planned Parenthood/eugenicist rethoric in the Netherlands when the government wants to inable certain people to have offspring, for these would be predicitable human failures…
Eugenics popped up in my mind during the research for my book (in Dutch) on the HPV vaccines, which in a couple of years may very well prove to be sterilising agents — in addition to the serious damage they already have inflicted on the mothers of the future.

Those of us who involved in direct action in the 80s knew this agenda back then. I remember being in an early STOPP meeting, and picking up the excellent, documented book Margaret Sanger: Father of Modern Society. Not to mention George Grant’s later book, Grand Illusions.
That said, thanks for keeping this before our minds, and bringing it to the attention of a new generation!
Though one may balk a bit at the grandstanding and other stuff in it, the section especially from the middle to the end of Alex Jones’ film Endgame is a good putting together of the overall ends desired and enunciated by the population-planner eugenicist Brave New Worlders. This is not just PP, but many in the Internationalist circles who are following this nihilistic nightmare, as carved in stone on the Georgia Guidestones. Wiki it; consider and know that this is the same spiritual battle of the ages. It will be won with Spiritual weapons. (And get the film BloodMoney and show it!)

As a black man, it pains me to no end when I think about how complacent & apathetic most people in the black community are when it comes to abortion & its impact on us. I’m sure some of you are aware of the recent case of the controversial pro-life billboard in Soho, NY. People were more concerned with the “offensiveness” of the billboard instead of the urgent message it so effectively conveyed. They won’t get upset at the horror of millions of babies being murdered in the name of “choice”, but they’ll sure get highly upset when someone calls attention to the truth.
But there is hope, with organizations like Bloodmoney helping to expose the evil that is abortion, progress is being made. America is becoming for pro-life, especially the younger generation coming up now. Also, there is a growing number of black people whos eyes have been opened, thanks be to God. Today’s eugenicist agenda for the control of the population gets popular support through the promotion of contraception and birth control, even among married people. Some industries help make such agenda popular. Sexuality is very powerful, the joining of male and female procreates, sexual drive is strongly built in our nature, sexual union is very powerful. Many eugenicist statements are deemed very unpopular and even politically incorrect but the basis of it’s agenda “control the population” is popular and valuable for some people . It is common to hear people promote population control and birth control as a moral duty. One even hears in TV people targeting other people for “irresponsibly bringing babies to suffer” but one rarely hears about irresponsible use of sexuality except for the lack of use of contraceptive devices. The promoter of population control uses a tactic that anchors on the promotion of the separation of sex from procreation and therefore family life. The tactic is used to render sex ineffective and individuals powerless. The goal is to have control in the government of people. Many people accept this form of dominion by sharing in exercising it. Thus birth and population control gives a sense of control making the controlled shift focus from being controlled to being in control. What we have is an economy of birth and population control leaving at the very bottom the poorest of the poor- the unborn- unprotected, and promoting people at various levels to exercise some control over others in eugenic terms while blaming poor men and women for not using birth control to shift people’s attention from discovering that it is such eugenic agenda what contributes to keep some people marginalized- the use of sex for controlling people and the propaganda against procreation and family life.
The power of sex as something disassociated from procreation (sex without sexuality) is widespread in many industries, in this case it’s power is shifted to the object being promoted normally for capital gains. There you have that the economy of birth and population control goes hand by hand with an economy of sexual control and the promotion of certain industries. For these people, where the aim is to control certain people, such control is exercised by controlling their procreation, procreation is controlled by controlling sexuality and where control has failed, by abortion. The widespread attitude that separates sex from procreation and family and links sex with other things to substitute for it’s natural true meaning is very popular. There sex is linked to many experiences in turn linked to the commodities that are promoted by certain industries to substitute for procreation and family life. There groups of people associate with each other promoting control and certain commodities. There certain people profiting from certain operations promote population control. At the same time, popular acceptance and support of these operations result in the popularity of birth control and population control. The popularity of birth and population control is is tied with the popular support of certain industries. Behind it is the devaluation of human life for the sake of some experiences deemed more valuable than human life. Today’s idols are the ideologies that some justify to pursue those experiences.

I have a really different take on this issue. My heart is grieving. I have a problem with this article and many others written by pro-life people. The article is not wicked, or untrue, it’s just written in such an inhumane way. The first indication that something needs to change was the happiness, joy and gratitude in the responses. The whole article was about something really horrible and sad, and readers were happy?!
It’s really important to remain human when dealing with eugenics. To remain human means to see our “enemy” (those we disagree with) as fellow human beings who happen to be very wrong. But they’re human just like we are. They really do want good things, but they don’t know what is good!
Over the entrance of the United Nations building in New York is carved a quotation from the Persian Muslim poet-mystic Saadi Shirazi:
“Human beings are all members of one body.
They are created by the same essence.
When one is in pain, the others cannot rest.
If you do not care about the pain of others,
You do not deserve to be called a human being.”
I’d like to add, Human beings are all members of one body.

When one is mistaken about race, the others cannot rest.
If you do not care about the mistakes and blindness of others,
You do not deserve to be called a human being.
Racial cleansing being promoted by friend or foe should engender grief, not gladness. What I’m saying is fight the evil, not the people. The people are not evil, but certain deeds and ideas are. We want the conversion of abortionist and like-minded people to the light of truth, not their humiliation. In general, it’s not a good idea to turn people off by your militant correct views. It’s far better to treat them as friends who have temporarily gone down the wrong path.
These are the ideas that came to me as I read this article and the responses. I hope someone more practical than I will find a way to put these thoughts into action.

I think that the “happiness” people are expressing here has to do with the fact that the truth is being spread. How best to word this: “I am replying to a non-thinking kool-aid drinker” or “I write my words in response to one who does not think for themselves while drinking a white-processed sugar-water drink laced with pseudo-compassion in an effort to distract people from what the truth really is, because the truth hurts those who cannot think for themselves while merely spouting liberal drivel”.

Abortion is not a religious arguement. It is a political argument. People often ask if Margart Sangar was a racist. Y/N. People often say if she was a racist, what about Planned Parenthood today? Are they racist?
If you look at every Planned Parenthood location, you will understand that they are in black neighborhoods and some are located in poor areas of town. Go over the rich areas of town, you don’t see them over there. Go over to an all white neighborhood. You won’t see them over there.
Planned Parenthood does target the African American neighborhoods. So “YES” Planned Parenthood is a racist organization.

This was a very interesting article. I am definitely interested in reading more, although I do have to say that I have found Planned Parenthood to be a saving grace in certain times of my life… Not having insurance, they provided medical care and birth control pills for free, and while I was moving around a lot, it was so much easier to get my yearly exam done. I didn’t want to have to wait 6 months to get into a doctor to do it if I wasn’t going to be in the area in that time frame and my personal health is pretty important to me. Very sad to see this history of it after it has provided me with many benefits, but in my neck of the woods, they don’t provide abortion services, they only educate girls on their options if they were to become pregnant and offer free pregnancy tests. I’ll have to book mark you and continue reading.
